Attend an Introductory Seminar

Introductory Seminar

This seminar, sponsored by the National Board Resource Center at Stanford University, will provide an introduction to the National Board Certification process and help teachers who are ready to start on their portfolio development. Experienced National Board Certified teachers will co-lead the seminar and provide a range of information about the certification process. Attendees will learn the basics of how to apply for candidacy, get a brief tour of some of the standards and a chance to examine how they fit into their current teaching practices, and learn useful tips about how to prepare for and begin their work as candidates for National Board certification. They will also learn about approaches to developing a timeline for their work that fits the demands of their professional and personal lives.

The Introductory Seminar offered by the NBRC at Stanford will…

  • Offer a preview of the certification process including what the portfolio is
  • Give participants a chance to experience some of the work involved in candidacy
  • Help prospective candidates make informed decisions about pursuing candidacy
  • Present strategies for getting started on the work of planning and developing a portfolio
