The National Board Resource Center at Stanford University has run a support program for National Board Candidates since 1998 under the direction of Professor Linda Darling-Hammond. The support group offers teachers an opportunity to collaborate with National Board Certified Teachers and other National Board Candidates while completing the portfolio and assessment center exercises.

The Stanford support group meets monthly on Saturday mornings from 9:00-12:30 on the Stanford University campus. Meetings address topics such as the National Board teaching standards, writing within the portfolio, videotaping your classroom, and understanding the scoring process. National Board Certified Teachers facilitate small groups based on certificate areas. In the small groups, candidates generally provide feedback on each other's work, share experiences, and raise and answer questions about teaching and the assessment process.
